HOW TO WORSHIP GOD IN HOLINESS
Isaiah 65:1-5, “I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name. 2I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts; 3A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick; 4Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels; 5Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.”
Anchor Verse: Psalm 24:3-4, “3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.”
What does it mean to worship in holiness?
Worshipping God in holiness is a fundamental aspect of the Christian faith. God is asking for us to only bring worship to Him with in this state of mind only – HOLY. Psalm 24:3-4, if you want to ascend into the hill of the Lord or stand in his holy place, then come clean, pure and holy before Him.
These guidelines below will open your mind to give a new mindset to help you worship God in holiness:
Preparation for Worship:
We must understand that we are the worship that God first demands; our lives. Worship transcends the songs that we sing slowly either in at our personal devotions at home or in the general congregation or assembly. Worship is a lifestyle; it is more than a song. Worship is the act of showing reference and adoration for something or someone that we consider sacred or important. If we are to worship in holiness then we must realize that the very life style that we live must be to reference the Almighty God. We must then do the following:
- Purify your heart: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.”
- Confess your sins: “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Worship with Reverence:
In your worship revere, His name, show profound respect and awe of God’s majesty, power and holiness. This makes the worshipper to recognize God’s transcendence, sovereignty and glory. During your worship is not the time to fiddle with your phone, stand without participation (during church worship) or just being lost without much concentration on God.
- Fear God: Deuteronomy 6:13, “Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.” Let the fear of the Lord be in your heart at all times in all places.
- Revere His name: Deuteronomy 28:58, “If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD THY GOD;” Revere God anywhere you find yourself.
- Worship in spirit and truth: “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
Maintain Holiness in Daily Life:
A true and faithful Christian does not make holy living an accidental thing. It is his great concern. As the business of a soldier is to fight so the business of a Christian is to be like Christ.
- Be separate from sin: “Come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord. 2 Corinthians 6:17
- Live a life of obedience: “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” (John 14:15)
3. Pursue righteousness at all times: “Pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (2 Timothy 2:22)
