KNOWING THE HOLY GOD

Revelation 15:1-4, “1And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. 2And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 3And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. 4Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”

Revelation 15:4, “Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”

God is holy. He is absolutely pure, sacred and sanctified. He is unstained by sin and evil. He is perfect in every way and perfectly good all the time. In the entire Sacrificial System, the Lord reminded the people of His holiness. Leviticus 11:44-45, “44For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 45For I am the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I am holy.”

God’s holiness sets Him apart, and His people are described as holy because He has set them apart. The commands given to God’s people reflect His holy nature and are intended for their benefit, guiding them in the pursuit of holiness. These commands also reveal how much we fall short of His standards.

We have a holy standard to live by because God is holy Leviticus 19:20, “And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free.” Believers are commanded to be holy as God is holy. 1 Peter 1:15, “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;” Jesus addressed His father as “Holy” John17:11, “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.” Believers are to worship the Lord in holiness Psalms 29:2, “Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.”

Holiness causes believers to be sensitive to sin Luke 5:8, “When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.”

God’s unable to look at sin, Isaiah 59:2, “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

God character is one of flawless moral perfection. Holiness has a positive and negative side. Positive described that God always does what is right while His negative side described that He’s separate from all sin.

God is so holy, that we can’t even enter His presence we are not holy too. His holiness is so powerful that we can’t withstand it Exodus 3:4-6, “4And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground. 6Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.”

When GOD sent Jesus to die for our sins and they resurrected Him, He bridged gap for us so that we could enter into His presence at anytime
